Pretty much everyone who’s felt these blends & yarns has been blown away by how soft they are. We have several new products, like some dyed yarns & tops, and brand new spinning kits. Our tops & top blends are made here in Maine and our yarns are made at one of several American mills. We know where all the fiber we work with came from, that the animals were treated ethically and that the fibers were produced sustainably. All the fiber products in our booth are from our flock, and most products are hand processed by me. Products available in our booth include raw fleeces, hand carded batts of wool, hand spun yarn, as well as mill processed roving and yarn. We carry the Majacraft line of wheels and equipment, and will have wheels in the booth to try and purchase. We are participating breeders in the Livestock Conservancy Shave Em to Save Em campaign - passport stickers will be available in our booth. My dad & I are huge fiber geeks & we love talking about fiber. Together we run the Maine Top Mill where we specialize in making amazing top & top blends that essentially spin themselves and yarns that are alive with possibilities. Chiri Cloud 80’s, the completely uniform 17um alpaca top & yarn we make, and 18.2um American Rambouillet were the fibers we started with. Now we make so much more, like 14.5um merino/yak, gotland/rose, merino/rose, rambouillet/angora and so much more. Let us know if you'd like to chat earlier or later, so we can set up a time. While they shear the flock, we skirt through the fleeces removing bits of brambles and seaweed, sort them into grades, and bundle them into large burlap sacks. All of the lambs fleeces are used exclusively in our Nash Island LAMB yarn, while the soft ewe fleeces go into our Nash Island LIGHT, MUCKLEMARL, and TIDE yarns. The longest, softest fleeces are wrapped in sheets and reserved for hand spinners. Let us know if you'd like to chat earlier or later, so we can set up a time. Free shipping to the USA on orders over $50.October 14-20 20% off tops, top blends & hand dyed tops with code RHINEBECKLOVE. Yarns 25% off. Contact us for the best price on International orders.

Fine wool shetlands have an afd of around 25 microns or less, and have very tight organized crimp. Their fiber is ideal for next to skin projects and items which benefit from elasticity - like socks, hats and gloves. Spinners, knitters and crocheters love the bouncy softness of the wool from our soft shetlands - I am looking forward to introducing our wool to the many visitors at the NY Sheep and Wool festival! #Self raised #complete farm product #softshetlandwool #self-raised

10:00 AM - 4:00 PMStarcroft Fiber Mill

Located in the woods of Downeast Maine, Starcroft Fiber Mill is a mother/daughter yarn studio. We work with our good friends the Wakemans tending the sheep throughout the year. In early summer, we join them to help shear the sheep. If the weather cooperates, and the sheep are dry, we gather as day breaks for a boat ride to the island, where we round up the flock, and our three local women shearers get to work. After a hard day’s work filled with laughter and good food, the sacks of newly shorn fleeces are hauled in lobster boats to the mainland.
