Description

You can easily make your own shawl pins just using wire and a couple of tools! Learn about the different shapes and styles of shawl pins including those with and without sticks, and which work best with different weights of yarn. Learn about different wire gauges and materials, how to shape wire, and how to texture and patina your shawl pin. Learn other uses for shawl pins, and how to clean and care for them. In class, you will have the opportunity to make a few different shawl pins of your own choosing!

NOTE: You will need to attend class in a workspace that has a table/counter that will withstand the force of hammering. A steel block is recommended to protect the surface.

Round Craft Wire: One spool each 14 gauge and 18 gauge, either silver (solid or plated), aluminum, or copper (if you have issues with hand strength, purchase aluminum or "Dead Soft" silver).
Ball-peen hammer
Round nose pliers
Flat nose pliers
Wire cutter
2 Round bottles or rods: one needs to be about 2" around, one about 1" around
Nail file or sandpaper
Masking tape
Black fine point Permanent marker
Recommended: Steel block
Additional: Hand towel, paper towels, measuring tape
